Approach & Services

Person-centred
counselling.

A form of therapy that puts you, your experience, and your pace at the centre. Not a set of techniques applied to you — a relationship that allows you to change.

What is person-centred counselling?

Developed by Carl Rogers, person-centred therapy is built on a simple, radical idea: that people have the capacity to understand themselves and grow — if they are given the right conditions.

Those conditions are: unconditional positive regard (being accepted without conditions), empathy (being genuinely understood), and congruence (the counsellor being honest, not hiding behind a professional mask).

The decisions remain yours. I’m not here to direct you or solve you. I’m here to be present with you — reliably, honestly, and without an agenda — so that the space itself becomes useful.

Who might this help

Feeling stuck, lost, or like something is missing

Anxiety, low mood, or stress that won't shift

Grief, loss, or a significant life change

Relationship difficulties — with a partner, family, or yourself

Something from the past that still affects the present

A general sense of wanting more from life

Workplace stress or burnout

You don’t need a diagnosis, a crisis, or a clear reason. Many people come simply because they want to talk.

“Counselling can offer the chance to explore your present and past experiences and how they may be affecting your life now.”

What to expect

The first session

Primarily a chance to meet. I'll ask a little about you and what's brought you here — and you can ask me anything about how I work. There's no pressure to commit to anything. First sessions are £35.

Ongoing sessions

50 minutes, usually weekly — though we can adjust frequency if that suits you better. Some people work with me for a few weeks; others continue for longer. There's no fixed programme. You set the pace.

Where we meet

At my home in the West Heath area of Congleton, Cheshire. I also offer sessions by phone or video (Skype) if you'd prefer to work online.

Also available

Couples counselling

Relationship difficulties are some of the most painful things we live with. Couples counselling offers a neutral, contained space — not to take sides, but to help you hear each other more clearly and understand what’s happening between you.

I hold a Certificate in Couples and Relationship Counselling from the Maccabee Counselling Centre, and bring the same person-centred values — warmth, fairness, and careful listening — to every session.

Couples fees

£80

per hour-long session

Block of 5 sessions for £400 — the 6th session free.

Referrals

I accept self-referrals — you don’t need a GP or third party to get in touch. I also welcome referrals from GPs and workplaces. If you’d like to discuss whether counselling might be right for you before booking, you’re welcome to call or email.
